“They will look upon him whom they have pierced” (John 19:37)

On the Cross, you see me serene, just as the artist saw me who sculpted this image in the 13 th century. He had a prayer on his lips and in his heart as his hands unerringly carved my figure destined for the Romanesque church of this monastery.
Look closely – there isn’t a lot of blood, and there’s no pain on my face, but rather I’m stretched on the Cross as a King would sit on a throne of Glory. It’s true that I died on the Cross, but as St. John the Evangelist writes, it was on the Cross that I won my victory – and in dying for your love, I also gave you my Spirit.
If you want to understand better, I encourage you to get a Bible and read chapters 18-19 of the Gospel according to St. John in the New Testament.
And if you want to tell me something – that’s what prayer is – here I am, waiting for you.

I’ve also been a reliquary. That means, they made of my statue a place where to keep and preserve a sacred object for veneration. In this case, I preserved for many years in my head a grain of incense. According to the documents, it came from the treasure chest of the Three Kings, just as you can read in the Gospel according to St. Matthew, in the second chapter.
I’m showing you a photo they took of me so you can see it, because from where I am you won’t be able to perceive it.
